10 Cool Tricks for the Apple iPad 2

Posted on May 1 2011 - 4:13pm by Robert

If you are the proud owner of an iPad 2 then you are probably very fond of it. But wouldn’t it be even better if you had some handy tips and tricks to get even more out it? Here we go then.

1. Add the free Find My iPad service.

Go into Settings then Mail followed by Contacts then Calendars. Choose Add Account and pick MobileMe. Put in your MobileMe or iTunes account details or create a free ID. Then check your inbox for verification instructions. After this you can activate Find My iPad on MobileMe and see where you are on a map at me.com

2. Where’s the apostrophe?

If you are in Mail or Notes then press and hold the key marked ! and the apostrophe symbol can now be chosen, saving you a little bit of hassle with those annoying possessive nouns.

3. Remove the battery percentage.

When you aren’t bothered about seeing this stat just go to Settings / General / Usage. Easy.

4. Read your books in comfort.

There is no need to change the entire iPad’s brightness settings to find the ideal level for your iBooks, as the app has a little slider which you can use.

5. Take a screen shot.

All you have to do is press Home followed by the Sleep button. You will see the screen flashing and hear a little click. Now if you head off the Photo Gallery you will see the screenshot sitting there.

6. Stick it on mute.

If you had one of the original iPads then you might not realise that it has been upgraded to include this feature. Just hold down the Volume reduce button or flick the switch on the side of the iPad.

7. Find a word on Safari.

If you type in the word you want into the Google search box then scroll down the list of suggestions you will see “On This Page” as an option along with number of times is appears.

8. Get more email preview.

Instead of settling for the usual 2 lines of preview you can go Settings / Mail / Contacts / Calendars and then amend what it says in the Preview section.

9. Intruder alert, delete all info.

If you have sensitive information on your iPad 2 then go to Settings / General / Passcode Lock / Erase Data. This means that any secret agents or suspicious partners who put in the wrong password 10 times will cause all the info on the machine to be erased.

10. Turn off Wi-Fi network advice.

If you don’t want to be asked every time whether you want to join a Wi-Fi network then just go to Settings / Wi-Fi and deactivate the Ask to Join Networks option. If you want to hook up then just go back to this same option.
