If you are currently in the market for a stunning new car then the latest pictures and information about the new Mercedes-Benz SLK might be enough to convince you to hold off until the release date of this model.
The third generation SLK design has SLS influences in there with a bit of retro front wing cool throw in for good measure, but if you look past the surface beauty you will find a lot of very worthy features on it too.
There are three different suspension options, with a sports option likely to be an attractive choice for those who aren’t satisfied with the basic suspension. However, if you really want to push the boat out you can go for the Dynamic Handling suspension, which will give you continuous and adjustable damping and the ability to brake the inside wheel when you take a tight corner. Engine-wise we can expect three different choices as well, with a 2.1 turbo diesel being rumoured to be one of those options for the time in the range.
The roof comes with three options. You can go for the traditional aluminium deal, a fairly basic tinted glass roof or a wonderful Magic Sky Control one with a variable tint and advanced control features. This last option lets you increase or decrease the tint very quickly, which will certainly come in handy during those typical British summers where the sun doesn’t seem to know whether it wants to come out or not.
It looks like the new SLK will be hitting the streets of the UK around June, so just in time to give that variable tint glass roof a good work out. The price is still a mystery, although Mercedes say that once you get it on the road it will be up to 25% cheaper to run than previous incarnations.
Will the wait be worth it?
