Air Swimmers, a line of toy balloons that was tipped by Toys ‘R’ Us and Hamleys as a must have this holiday season, took the video streaming service YouTube by storm last week. The YouTube video clip shows the mesmerizing clownfish and shark floating through the air spread online instantly and became a big hit. In just five days, the Air Swimmers video clip received a whopping 2,125,609 views.
Since then, a series of video clips have emerged, including one where a very cat sneaks into a bowl to catch the fish inside. An Air Swimmer shark then teaches the sneaky feline a lesson by surprising it before it runs away. In just a few days, the video reached 424,189 views.
The video clip of Air Swimmers has been voted as YouTube’s favorite Science and Technology video for the month and it’s only been posted for a week. It has also been picked up in the United States by NBC and CBS. It is also scheduled to appear on Comedy Central and the Ellen Degeneres Show. I just one day, over 1,300 emails were sent asking where the unusual toy can be purchased.
“We’re blown away with the response Air Swimmers has received on YouTube this week. Having spent 18 months secretly working on the toy we had a feeling it would be a blockbuster this Christmas but this has gone beyond our wildest expectations,” said Richard North, managing director of Wow! Stuff. “Showing Air Swimmers to the public is the ultimate test for Wow! Stuff, watching their faces on YouTube as they swim through the air has been fantastic. One of our other Christmas toys My Keepon was developed following phenomenal response online and the samples on this will go out shortly.”
Air Swimmers are remote-controlled flying balloons that come in two kinds: the flying clownfish and the flying shark. These flying toys are simple to control and these can even maneuver even the tightest of spaces.
