It seems, at the moment, that nobody truly wants to take Apple on at creating the most popular high budget touch screen tablet PC and instead they’re turning their attention to budget alternatives. Budget is fine as long as they’ve got some of the features to back it up. Dixons has announced that it will release two Android based tablets by manufacturer Advent just in time for the Christmas rush.
Dixons Group, which owns Currys and PC World, has said that they expect tablet PCs to take the computer industry by storm and they think that this form of PC will be the biggest gift range this Christmas. In order to take a slice of the Christmas gift buying mega-pie they’re going to sell two budget range tablet PCs that run the Android system and are both by manufacturer Advent.
The slightly more expensive Vega has an nVidia Tegra 2 Dual Core 1GHz processor which is definitely an improvement. It features a 1.3mp camera which is certainly an improvement but still not exactly incredible. It is multi-touch which should be considered essential in our opinion and it will have the updated Android 2.2 Operating System installed on it. It also has 512MB of NAND memory as well as a 4GB SD Memory Card. Again, it’s far from overwhelming in what it offers but with multi-touch screen and more reasonable faetures, all available for the still reasonable £250 price tag, it could prove popular with some consumers.
