Apple iMac 2011 Sandy Bridge Refresh Coming Tuesday 3rd May

If the latest speculation is accurate Apple could release the next range of iMacs on the 3rd May 2011, yep you heard it right – tomorrow. The news comes by way of Apple insider who has spoken with people ‘familiar with the matter’. These same sources say that the new range will come with brand new sandy bridge quad core chips and of course come equipped with the lightening fast Thunderbolt port seen first on the Macbook Pro.

Other evidence also points heavily towards some kind of product launch this week because many wheels have been put in motion in both the distribution and retail sectors. One such procedure is the ‘visual night’ which is basically where Apple employees prepare all of the new signage and promotion materials in their stores. They also remove all of the old products and replace them with the new version which makes a lot of sense.

The last time stores did this was for the Apple iPad 2 release day, at the time UK stores had to shut in the afternoon to prepare because the official release time was 5pm in the afternoon. This could mean US stores could see the new iMac on the 3rd May, have Apple chosen starwars day for a reason? Perhaps to promote the lightening speed of Thunderport? Who knows.

The team also asked their sources if the new iMacs would come with the beastly AMD HD 6000 series, sadly they were unable to confirm or deny whether they would.
