Earlier in the week we talked about the rumoured release of Apple’s iOS 4.2 operating system and how an ‘insider’ has revealed that it would be released on Friday along with the new iTunes 10.1. This release date has been pushed back until the 24th November 2010.
Apple has yet to reveal the reasons for the late arrival of 4.2 but did say the update will arrive sometime in November, in their defence they never actually pinned the release date as yesterday – it was all from an ‘insider’ who leaked the info.
Another source has explained Apple has decided to push the release date back, possibly due to the Wi-Fi bug reported on the blog Macstories.
Whenever the update comes it should be worth the wait to Apple users, the 4.2 update will be enabled on the iPhone, iPod touch and most importantly the iPad – which will finally get multi-tasking and the ability to tether. Well worth the week or so wait?
What do you think?
This is totally not clear to me. First they said it was going to be the beginning of November for the release? Then they said, oh yeah it will now be simultaneously with iTunes 10.1, well.. I just updated to 10.1, but iOS 4.2 is nowhere to be seen. Is the 24th of November really gonna be the release, or is the release going to be moved to December? I really want the update right, now. 😛
If the iPad release is bad why not release the iPod touch and iPhone 4.2 builds? The iPad can waIt until nov 24!!!
@MattM ~ iOS 4.* is a generic operating system for all mobile/portable 'iDevices' – one iOS for all devices including iPod touch, iPhone and iPad. Nevertheless, I share your frustration. Connect with iTunes on 24th November 2010 for your iOS 4.2 software update.
I've got 4.2 on my iPad and I'm loving it! Forget waiting on Steve Jobs and his little emotional hang-ups, and I personally don't see anything wrong with 4.2, it works fine…Jobs just likes toying with people, cuz he knows he has iCrack and people will wait on him diligently. Well, too bad, Steve, I got it already! I can show you how to do it too, iPhone, iPod or iPad, I can get 4.2!
Ryan: I understand but I thought each device has it's own 4.2 file that is downloaded and installed. The os is generically for all devices but doesn't each device have it's own file?
