The last few weeks, indeed months, have been filled with speculation and hype surrounding the Apple iPad 2 which could be released in April and be announced within the next couple of weeks. Well it seems this could be old news as today the iPad 3 has been tipped for a September 2011 release date – too good to be true and surely a non starter if you ask me.
However, Daring Daring Fireball’s John Gruber let slip a snippet of information whilst discussing the HP Touchpad, he said “If my theory is right, they’re not only going to be months behind the iPad 2, but if they slip until late summer, they might bump up against the release of the iPad 3.”
If this is true then it may mean the iPad 2 might just be a face lift come stop back to a better iPad in September, a bit like the 3G that became the 3GS. It’s no secret that Apple annually releases their iPod ranges around that time, perhaps they are hoping to tag the iPad onto the Christmas gravy train.
Although the statement comes from a well known source we are not sure Apple would bring out two iPad’s in the same year. It is possible that the iPad 3 could be a smaller tablet to rival the Blackberry Playbook or Galaxy Tab, if that were the case it would just be another addition to the range – a bit like an iPod shuffle, Nano and Touch set up.
