Rumors surrounding Apple’s iPhone 5 have been appearing online like crazy and just recently, details around the iPhone 6, which is said to be released in 2012, has also been unveiled.
The iPhone 5 has been the most talked about phone recently, and without having an official announcement from Apple, UBM TechInsights have been doing some extensive investigation about the specs of the new phone. We’ve tied these together with other rumours and snippets published on our site from the past few weeks.
Processor: It is certain that the company’s own dual-core processor, the A5, will be used to power the fifth generation iPhone, but it is still unclear which company will manufacture it. Some have speculated that Apple will move to TSMC’s 28-nanometer manufacturing process, but Bitton said that the company will stick to Samsung’s 45-nanometer processor – who knows after the recent legal battles between the two brands.
Camera: The iPhone’s camera could be supplied by OmniVision Technologies Inc., though some reports say it will come from Sony, and will almost certainly offer better quality than the iPhone 4. Some analysts have suggested an 8MP sensor capable of shooting in full HD could be equipped, this is essential if Apple wants to hold onto their crown as the most used camera on Flickr.
Display: Apple has filed patents for OLED touch screens, which suggests that the iPhone 5 will sport a larger screen that also improves visibility under direct sunlight. A few mock ups have suggested the screen could be edge to edge, and even curved like the HTC Sensation.
The iPhone 5 is said to be a improved version of the iPhone 4, some have suggested a minor update is more likely than a major overhaul – similar to the iPhone/iPhone 3GS scenario. however, it was reported that the iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
The iPhone 5 release date has provided the largest amount of speculation and frustration amongst consumers and bloggers.
