April 30, 2008

Sony has just launched the DAV-F200 Bravia home theatre system, sony sound bites “Bringing cinema sound without cluttering up your living room with speakers” as the major selling point. In terms of specifications its not amazing but fine for casual home use.

  • 300W amplifier

  • HDMI output

  • MP3 recording via USB

  • Playback of MP3, WMA, AAC, and JPEG via USB

The control box can be mounted to the wall or placed in a cabinet and the hideaway speakers as small enough to hide in any number of crevasses in the living room. With a total amplification output of 405W claims to create virtual surround effects from only two hidden speakers and the reasonably compact sub-woofer. April 30, 2008

I was reading over at engadget, those lucky, lucky people have managed to get there hands on the new 3ghz iMac to testdrive. They’ve taken a great selection of photos from the unbox process to booting it up and  managed to some time out to benchmark it against other machines.

The top of the line 24-inch model now has a 3.06GHz processor, 512MB of on board video ram in the form of  NVIDIA GeForce graphics, 2GB of memory, and a 320GB 7200rpm disk for $2,199.  All machines tested were using Leopard.

Heres a snapshot of the benchmarking tests:

iPhone “Finally” arrives in Canada, eh!?

April 30, 2008

According to a market report from Bloomberg, Steve Jobs may well be dropping the iPhone on Canada, tomorrow’s at Apples keynote speech.

RBC Capital Markets analyst - Mike Abramsky says, Apple will unleash the phone via Rogers Communications — the country’s largest mobile service provider. “

There’s a very good chance that Apple will announce or discuss some kind of other carrier roll-outs, beyond the ones it has done in Europe and the U.S.” He said, adding that, “There is definitely very strong demand and interest here.”

No, this isn’t a definite from apple campus who have stayed mum, up until now. However its only a matter of time before the apple roll out in Canada. For those of you who haven’t realized what apple’s master plan is. Basically there going from territory to territory striking exclusive deals with the major network operators in each country, That way monopolizing the market to one provider, both getting a healthy cut, nice jobs!

Apple Announces iMac Upgrades

April 29, 2008

New iMac Upgrades AnnouncedEverything is looking pretty rosy for Apple at the moment. The iPod is probably still one of the biggest gadget crazes to have hit the world since the Sony Walkman was first introduced. The iPhone has been one of the most sought after mobile phones ever and the iMac is growing in popularity at an alarmingly impressive rate.

Clearly, Apple is not going to rest on its laurels either. The iPhone is rumoured to have an upgrade in the pipeline already, and today sees the release of details regarding the upgraded iMac. And, I have to say, it looks very nice indeed. Not only does it look impressive, but the spec is jaw droppingly good too.

20” and 24” monitors offer incredible resolution and crystal clear images, while Intel Core 2 Duo processors offer an excellent 3.06GHz with all the trimmings. ATI Radeon graphics are standard but consumers also have the option to upgrade to Nvidia Geforce 8800GS graphics with a whopping 512MB of video memory.

The upgrades don’t stop there, either, with more memory being included as standard. Standard memory will range from 1GB to 2GB with the option to double up and get twice as much storage for your money. All in all, it looks like this upgrade news will help Apple continue with their impressive rate of growth.

Iphone Missing – Presumed Sold Out Ready For 3G Version

April 27, 2008

iPhone Upgrade? The Apple iPhone has been something of a phenomenon since its release. There’s no doubting its incredible looks and the existence of a touch screen that actually works as intended had many a technophile salivating at the very prospect of ownership.

However, the £269 price tag was far from accessible for the majority. Partially in light of this, prices were reduced by £100 to a much more attractive £169. The end result is that both the providers Carphone Warehouse and the network O2 have indicated that they only have very limited supplies of the iPhone left in stock.

A more cynical, although potentially more accurate, view is that the price drop was offered in order to clear stocks in time for the release of the 3G iPhone in early June. Citi Analysts have taken the price drop, along with other factors, as a clear indication that Steve Jobs will announce the next generation of 3G iPhone (as well as a new iPod) during his keynote speech. The speech will take place during the Apple Worldwide Developer’s Conference on June 9th.

The Developer’s Conference has been something of a hot bed for new releases in recent years and if a 3G version of the iPhone is imminent then Steve Job’s keynote speech is the most likely time to make an announcement.

500,000 GB MP3 Player On The Horizon

April 27, 2008

Room for one more track? According to researchers from Glasgow University, you’ll have plenty of room soon. Professor Lee Cronin and Dr Malcolm Kadodwala have completed research that means a single square inch of memory could contain as much as 500,000 GB, instead of the current limit of approximately 3.3GB.

iPod HeadphonesThat should have ISPs in a bit of a panick, following news that they want the BBC to pay more because of the popularity of the BBC iPlayer. Imagine the number of downloads that you would need to manage in order to fill an iPod Nano that can hold over 100,000 times more songs.

The change in technology could mean even smaller MP3 players and other portable devices although it may not be worth getting your hopes up just yet. While the technology has been proven, Professor Lee Cronin admits that they have “yet to solve the fabrication and addressing problems.”

If a 5GB MP3 player holds around 2,500 songs, this could mean the advance of an MP3 player that would house an astonishing 250 million tracks. That’s an awful lot of Cliff Richard in anyone’s book.

Top 3 Weirdest And Most Useless iPod Accessories

April 26, 2008

When it comes to having the most ridiculous accessories of any product, the iPod is hands down the most popular product on the marketplace. There are literally thousands of pointless, though admittedly sometimes cool, accessories to have graced the iPod accessory list but somehow we’ve whittled it down to just three for your enjoyment.

3 – iPod Toilet Paper Dispenser

It’s a toilet roll dispenser and an iPod docking station. Speakers are hidden inside the arms of the dispenser and it supports all models of iPod that have a docking connector, or Shuffle USB. A very handy gadget I’m sure.

2 – The iPod Breathalyser

Personal breathalysers have become almost as popular as iPods. Well, OK, there’s a few of them about now. But why go to the hassle of owning a breathalyser and an iPod when you could have both conveniently wrapped in one pocket sized gadget? Genius.

iPod Stethoscope1 – The iPod Stethoscope

The iPod stehoscope doesn’t just provide doctors with a convenient and practical place to store their iPod. Oh no, because that would be useless. The iPod stethoscope also enables the lucky owner to record their patient’s beating hearts for playback at a later time.

Honourable mentions must also be made to such incredible items as the iPod George Foreman grill, the iPod G-String, and the pink iPod vibrator (it’s called the iBuzz if you’re wondering).

Why not show off your innovative ideas. Let us know what you think the next best useless iPod gadget should be.
