For the first time ever, Apple has surpassed Hewlett Packard (HP) in both revenue and computer unit sales. It has been revealed that Apple sold more iPad tablets than the worldwide PC sales of HP.

When asked by an analyst during the earnings call, Apple’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook noted that they have sold a record-breaking 15.4 billion iPads and that the company does not consider tablets that have limited functions and e-readers to be in the same league as the iPad. Cook believes that the reason why the iPad is such a huge success is that its ecosystem is “in a class by itself.”

“We strongly believe in optimizing applications from day one to take advantage of the larger canvas,” said Cook. “There are only a few hundred apps designed for the competition, versus more than 170,000 apps designed specifically for iPad. People who want an iPad won’t settle for a limited function tablet.”

Cook added that Apple will “continue to innovate like crazy” and that it will continue to compete with existing and new players, who, in the future, may enter the market.

Come November 25, mobile phones, tablets and other platforms will no longer be a prerequisite to play the game, as Focus Multimedia will be distributing Angry Birds through the traditional disc.

According to the Market for Computer and Video Games (MCV), Focus Multimedia was chosen by Rovio Entertainment as the game series’ exclusive distributor.

The game developer’s deal with Focus will cover PC versions of the game that will be distributed in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

“The PC version puts Angry Birds on the big screen (well, monitor) for that wider non-mobile audience who don’t own or have access to smartphones or tablets,” said Ville Heijari, a spokesperson from Rovio, in an interview with MCV. “Boxed retail is another way to reach more audience. Digital and mobile are still at the core of our business, but boxed retail is a good addition for taking the brand forward.”

Focus Multimedia will then release Angry Birds Rio before the holiday season, followed by Angry Birds Seasons in 2012.

Although the PC version of Angry Birds, which will sell at £10 a piece, will cost less than half of a regular game, some people finds it a bit high, as they can get the mobile version for £0.69.

The Ideum MT-55 is a 55-inch tabletop that also serves as a full-HD (1080p) display that has a 5,000,000 : 1 contrast ratio. It is more like a flat screen LCD TV that is laid out flat on top of a coffee table. The MT-55 is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor at 2.66 GHz, has a 128 GB solid state disk drive, and 8 GB of RAM, has Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, and has a number of extra ports, like HDMI and USB 2.0, hidden underneath it. The tabletop runs on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating system. Its multitouch system can read 32 simultaneous touch inputs with a ±7 millisecond response time.

The frame is made with aircraft grade powder coated aluminum, so you know it’s tough.

This is a little expensive, though. One MT-55 Multitouch Table costs $18,000 (around £12,000), but for all the things that it can do, it is definitely worth it.

An additional $750 (£470), will give you an upgrade to Intel Core i7-620M processor that runs at 3.06 GHz and the solid state storage drive will increase to 256 GB.

Love Hulten calls this the Sputnik 0667. It really does take you way back when computers actually looked like that, like the Commodore PET that has the keyboard built in the unit itself.

The keyboard and mouse surface can be folded when not in use, and an old-school ventilation system, which is seen on older electronics, can be found at the back. It has a Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3 Mini-ITX motherboard running an Intel Core i3 550 3.2GHz CPU with a GeForce GTX 460 GPU, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

The artist refers to the Sputnik as a “concept computer,” and said that it the computer is “combined with the beauty of arts and crafts, inspired by the 20th century and old hi-fi.”

The artist even made advertisements for the case to showcase what they would look like if they wereavailable back then. An ad also features a man wearing a goldfish bowl helmet, saying “Bye baby! I’m going space hunting!”
