For the last quarter, the company has posted revenue of $46.33 billion and net profit of $13.06 billion, compared to the revenue of $26.7 billion (net profit of $6 billion) in the year-ago period. The company’s gross margin last quarter was 44.7 percent, compared to 38.5 percent of the same period last year.

For the first time ever, Apple has surpassed Hewlett Packard (HP) in both revenue and computer unit sales. It has been revealed that Apple sold more iPad tablets than the worldwide PC sales of HP.

When asked by an analyst during the earnings call, Apple’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook noted that they have sold a record-breaking 15.4 billion iPads and that the company does not consider tablets that have limited functions and e-readers to be in the same league as the iPad. Cook believes that the reason why the iPad is such a huge success is that its ecosystem is “in a class by itself.”

“We strongly believe in optimizing applications from day one to take advantage of the larger canvas,” said Cook. “There are only a few hundred apps designed for the competition, versus more than 170,000 apps designed specifically for iPad. People who want an iPad won’t settle for a limited function tablet.”

Cook added that Apple will “continue to innovate like crazy” and that it will continue to compete with existing and new players, who, in the future, may enter the market.

via: Slash Gear

Apple topples HP’s PC sales with its iPad sales is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

Angry Birds to be released for the PC for £10

Applications

Desktop PC

Gaming

angry birds

desktop

release

If you have missed out on Rovio’s very addictive physics-based game Angry Birds due to a lack of mobile platform, here’s some good news for you: Angry Birds will be released for desktop computers.

Come …

Angry Birds to be released for the PC for £10 is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

If you have missed out on Rovio’s very addictive physics-based game Angry Birds due to a lack of mobile platform, here’s some good news for you: Angry Birds will be released for desktop computers.

Come November 25, mobile phones, tablets and other platforms will no longer be a prerequisite to play the game, as Focus Multimedia will be distributing Angry Birds through the traditional disc.

According to the Market for Computer and Video Games (MCV), Focus Multimedia was chosen by Rovio Entertainment as the game series’ exclusive distributor.

The game developer’s deal with Focus will cover PC versions of the game that will be distributed in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

“The PC version puts Angry Birds on the big screen (well, monitor) for that wider non-mobile audience who don’t own or have access to smartphones or tablets,” said Ville Heijari, a spokesperson from Rovio, in an interview with MCV. “Boxed retail is another way to reach more audience. Digital and mobile are still at the core of our business, but boxed retail is a good addition for taking the brand forward.”

Focus Multimedia will then release Angry Birds Rio before the holiday season, followed by Angry Birds Seasons in 2012.

Although the PC version of Angry Birds, which will sell at £10 a piece, will cost less than half of a regular game, some people finds it a bit high, as they can get the mobile version for £0.69.

via: Eurogamer

Angry Birds to be released for the PC for £10 is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

Logitech announces their CoD: MW3 keyboard and mouse

Desktop PC

Gaming

PC Peripherals

call of duty

logitech

Modern warfare 3

peripherals

Logitech has announced a new set of peripherals specifically designed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 play.

The mouse and keyboard combination will be available next month and will come with Call of Duty …

Logitech announces their CoD: MW3 keyboard and mouse is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

Logitech has announced a new set of peripherals specifically designed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 play.

The mouse and keyboard combination will be available next month and will come with Call of Duty branding. The G9X model mouse will cost £69, while the G105 model keyboard will retail for £59.

“The Logitech Gaming Keyboard G105 and the Logitech Laser Mouse G9X are perfect for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 enthusiasts who want the best in precision and customization for their gaming experience,” said Logitech’s Senior Product Marketing Manager for Gaming Chris Pate. “Both devices let you jump right into the action with the power to perform complex maneuvers with confidence.”

The Logitech G9X Laser Mouse gives gamers game-changing precision at speeds up to 165 inches per second on popular mouse surfaces. Users can also customize the mouse’s LED color, so they can match the mouse to their PCs or styles.

The G105 Gaming Keyboard enables users to play long hours, even in the dark, with its night-vision green LED backlight. It features six programmable G-keys, with three mode states. The G105 keyboard provides up to 18 macro combinations, which lets users perform single keystrokes or multi-key combinations, per game.

With the multi-key input, users can perform multiple (and more complex) actions without ghosting that occurs on other keyboards. I know all of you are familiar with the term “desktop computer,” you might want to change its definition with the new Ideum MT-55 Platform.

The Ideum MT-55 is a 55-inch tabletop that also serves as a full-HD (1080p) display that has a 5,000,000 : 1 contrast ratio. It is more like a flat screen LCD TV that is laid out flat on top of a coffee table. The MT-55 is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor at 2.66 GHz, has a 128 GB solid state disk drive, and 8 GB of RAM, has Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, and has a number of extra ports, like HDMI and USB 2.0, hidden underneath it. The tabletop runs on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating system. Its multitouch system can read 32 simultaneous touch inputs with a ±7 millisecond response time.

The frame is made with aircraft grade powder coated aluminum, so you know it’s tough.

This is a little expensive, though. One MT-55 Multitouch Table costs $18,000 (around £12,000), but for all the things that it can do, it is definitely worth it.

An additional $750 (£470), will give you an upgrade to Intel Core i7-620M processor that runs at 3.06 GHz and the solid state storage drive will increase to 256 GB.

via: DesignBuzz

Ideum releases the ultrathin MT-55 Multitouch Table platform is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

Sputnik 0667 brings you back to the early 1900s

Desktop PC

News

art

case

case mod

casemods

PC

Sputnik 0667

Think you’re looking at some TV from the 50s or the 60s? Think again. What you’re looking at here is a PC case mod made by Swedish artist Love Hulten, who will be happy to hear that you thought it was a retro device.

Love Hulten calls this the Sputnik 0667. It really does take you way back when computers actually looked like that, like the Commodore PET that has the keyboard built in the unit itself.

The keyboard and mouse surface can be folded when not in use, and an old-school ventilation system, which is seen on older electronics, can be found at the back. It has a Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3 Mini-ITX motherboard running an Intel Core i3 550 3.2GHz CPU with a GeForce GTX 460 GPU, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

The artist refers to the Sputnik as a “concept computer,” and said that it the computer is “combined with the beauty of arts and crafts, inspired by the 20th century and old hi-fi.”

The artist even made advertisements for the case to showcase what they would look like if they wereavailable back then. An ad also features a man wearing a goldfish bowl helmet, saying “Bye baby! I’m going space hunting!”

Sputnik 0667 brings you back to the early 1900s is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

Logitech Launches New Gaming Peripheral Set

Desktop PC

Gaming

News

logitech

Apparently you can use your PC for more than visiting Facebook when you should be working and you don’t have to play video games through a console connected to your PC – honestly, it’s a …

Logitech Launches New Gaming Peripheral Set is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

Apparently you can use your PC for more than visiting Facebook when you should be working and you don’t have to play video games through a console connected to your PC – honestly, it’s a crazy world we live in. In all seriousness, though, PC gaming is often considered the hardcore gamers choice and if you’re into strategy games, massive RPGs, and online MMORPGs then your PC is quite probably your gaming system of choice. If so then the new Logitech G Series of peripherals is likely to be right up your street.

The 13 button mouse has, as you might imagine, 13 buttons which can be programmed according to your preference. It also offers pixel perfect laser tracking so you won’t be able to blame the mouse when it all goes wrong. The keyboard has a seriously funky LCD backlit screen and user customised colour backlit keys. You also get a wireless headset making it very handy for online gaming.

The programmable buttons on the mouse enable the user to add their own complex macros, which can include keystrokes, mouse clicks, and more in order to make pulling off some of the more ridiculous stunts in games a lot easier. They’ve been strategically placed to make it easy and quick to reach them and the whole mouse has been designed to offer the best possible grip and hand position for late night, marathon gaming sessions.

The GamePanel LCD screen on the keyboard is one to write home about too (well, assuming there’s anybody at home that might be interested). At least that is what Confucius says and who I am to argue with the most perceptive man ever to have lived / an over rated, glib buffoon (delete as you see fit). If you want to see what it right for you then the Acer Aspire M7300 is what we are currently talking about. Courage not supplied.

Design

Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it. I just know that a nice and serious, I-know-what-I’m-doing look always goes down well in a PC and that this model fulfils the requirements without running the risk of being called daring or mould breaking.

Notable Specifications

He who looks a perfect PC must compromise. The person who knows how to compromise will find the perfect PC (I made that one up myself, by the way). Let me just throw some Acer Aspire M7300 numbers at you; 6GB of memory, 1GB of dedicated video memory, 8 USB ports and 1TB of hard drive space. The processor is the hard-working AMD Phenom™ II X6 1035T, and the rest of the features are as you would expect in or on a top quality PC.

Value

He who will not economise will have to agonise. Take a look on the internet and you will see that you no longer have to agonise. Current offer price=900 quid.
