After the last eleven days of Playstation Network downtime Sony officials took it upon themselves to address the media face to face to explain what had happened and indeed the plan of action going forward. The news conference also contained a bow of heads for seven seconds as way of apology; this is obviously a lot longer than the traditional greeting but is dwarfed by Mitsubishi’s CEO who performed the ojigi for a full minute to apologise for inferior products – so the apology seems genuine to UK gamers although Japanese gamers may...
Earlier Nintendo announced that the Wii 2 will have a 2012 release date and will be revealed at the E3 expo later this year which undoubtedly is good news. However, the financial report they released later in the day contained both good and bad news. To sandwich the blow lets start with the bad news. Nintendo’s overall sales in 2010/11 (up to 31st March) where 29% lower than the previous year, that equates to $12.4 billion in sales with $825 million of net profit. Interestingly that means Nintendo produced 66% less profit than last year...
It seems speculation around the Wii 2 release date were actually true, back in 2010 it was predicted that the Wii 2 would be released in 2012. Since then speculation grew to include when it would be most likely that the second generation console would be unveiled and by way of an investors letter we now know. As predicted the Wiii 2 will be first unveiled at the E3 gaming conference in June 2011, this is basically the Mecca of gaming venues where the big companies usually unveil something new and exciting. Although the letter does look...
Earlier today Sony posted another update that they hoped would calm irate gamers who are angry because the Playstation network is still down. Many gamers were simply asking for a reason for the delay in re-launching the PSN network. To be fair the blog post did explain that ‘external intrusion’ meant Sony had to shutdown the Network to investigate and protect the integrity of the network and its users. This has gone some way to quell angry reactions although many feel it an inadequate update and are demanding more details. One of the...
A new rumour out about the next generation of Wii consoles involves the controller getting a fairly big screen on it. The new system is known as the Wii 2, or possibly the Wii HD depending upon who you listen to. While it still isn’t clear when it will be on sale or how much it will cost there has already been some great gossip about the controller which won’t be a Wiimote any more as is set to be a little larger in size. It seems that there is a chance that the new Wii will be getting a controller with a 6.2 inch screen on it. The...
Who is your favourite Italian plumber? Our guess is that it is a little chap with a moustache who goes by the name of Mario. If it is has been a while since you played one of his games then you will be delighted to see that it looks as though the Super Mario 3DS game is going to come out this year. The man behind the game is called Shigeru Miyammoto, and he has been quoted online as saying that the “completely original” game will be on its way “this year”. He added that it the gameplay is going to be a mix of the Super Mario Galaxy...
Barely a month has passed since the Nintendo 3DS launched here in the UK and retailers have already slashed prices, this could be for a number of reasons including lack of interest or just a good old fashioned way to attract buyers to their shops or online stores. Both Game and Amazon have dropped their prices, Game has now charges £179.99 for a 3DS console on its own whilst Amazon are offering the console for the same price or with a game and free screen protector for £189.99 which seems like the logical deal to take if you are planning...
Excitement is growing amongst the gaming world as retailers in the US and UK begin slashing prices of the Nintendo Wii. This is exciting for a couple of reasons, first the Wii and associated packages are now a real bargain with the second reason involving the thinking behind this price reduction. Why would retailers charge less for a perfectly good console? Well the only reason we can think of is the Wii 2 will be in stores soon! UK customers can now pick up a brand new Wii complete with one Wiimote, Wii sports and Sports resort games...
The games console battle between Sony and Nintendo took a new twist in the last couple of days with a top boss at Sony laying into the image presented by the Nintendo 3DS. Jack Tretton is President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America but there were no board room subtleties about the way he got stuck into his Fortune interview. He said that “no self respecting twenty something” would want to be seen sitting on an airplane with the 3DS and even went so far as to call it a “babysitting tool”. These comments follow the general...
