The company’s announcement follows the expansion of Netflix to 43 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.

In 2008, Roku launched the first streaming player in the United States. Now, it is the leading streaming platform in the country, providing more than 350 channels of content, including Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Netflix, NBA Game Time and Pandora.

“This year has been one of many accomplishments for Roku in the U.S. In July, we introduced Roku 2 which brings casual games to the TV and last month we unveiled the $49.99 Roku LT,” said Anthony Wood, Roku’s founder and chief executive officer. “We’ve added casual games including Angry Birds and PAC-MAN, as well as premiere channels including HBO GO. And now we’re looking forward to kicking off 2012 by expanding to Europe and Canada and providing consumers abroad with the best in streaming entertainment — a natural evolution for Roku.”

To make the service available in Canada, the company is now working with Synnex Canada Limited.

Pricing and a specific release date have not yet been confirmed, but as soon as new information comes to light, we will let you know.

The new models, the Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD, and Roku 2 XS, have improved media streaming capabilities compared to the previous models. All major steaming sources are there, including Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus and Netflix. Roku also has capabilities to stream live sports events like the NBA, NHL and Major League Soccer, along with online radio stations like Pandora, MOG and rdio. The new Roku models is not just limited to streaming media, they also feature motion gaming capabilities with a built-in Angry Birds game.

All of Roku’s new models have a microSD slot for expandable storage and the company has also improved the devices’ local storage access, which had issues in the previous versions. The Roku 2 models feature Bluetooth support to connect with the included nunchuck-like Game Remote.

“Roku is the best-selling streaming player on the market because of its simplicity, breadth of content and value. Now we’re setting the bar even higher with Roku 2 – a more powerful platform with new features including casual gaming,” said Anthony Wood, Roku’s founder and CEO. “We’ve worked closely with Rovio to bring the first full version of Angry Birds to the TV – and best of all, we’re including it for free with the top-of-the-line XS model.”

The Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD and the Roku 2 XS will be hitting the shelves by the end of July.

These universal docking systems feature two 15 Watt speakers and a slim, vertical center unit that can charge two Apple devices at the same time. These are the first dual docking stations in the industry and aside from playing music from your devices, the stations’ center units have an audio CD player, USB connection, PC input, and AM/FM Tuner. The CD player and USB ports are only featured in the UX-VJ5.

The VJ5′s CD player does not only play audio CDs, it can also play MP3 and WMA files as well. The VJ5 can also record MP3 files to your USB drives.

The devices both weigh 1.7 kilos and have a dimension of 290 x 186.5 x 155 mm. Both devices are equipped with headphone and composite video outs for playing multimedia files. The speakers have a full bass reflex system that consumes 30 Watts of power.

What’s good about these two is that you can rotate the dock and position both your iPhone and iPad horizontally. With powerful speakers and the TV outputs, you can enjoy watching movies on your devices on a bigger screen.

The UX-VJ3 is available in white, green and pink, while the UX-VJ5 is available in white, violet and brown.

Current Sky subscribers will be able to register two devices to work with Sky Go, they will not be charged an additional fee and will be able to access the content they have paid for in their regular Sky package. People who do not have a Sky subscription will be able to watch Sky programs by setting up a mobile package with prices ranging from £15-£40 per month.

TV lovers will be able to download and start using the new Sky go app on 6th July, at which time the current Sky Player will be retired.

The service will launch with 30 channels including Sky Sports, ESPN and Sky News. Other branded channels such as Sky Movies, Sky Atlantic and MTV will also be included. Sky has also revealed that their public wi-fi network, ‘the cloud’ will also be unlocked to Sky customers later on in 2011. However, when Sky Go launches users will not be able to use public wi-fi to access the service, initially they will have to make do with their own Wi-Fi and will only be able to use it in the UK (much like the iPlayer).

See Rio First

This is the first time Sky has laid this kind of reward for its subscribers. They will even provide entertainment and activities for the kids before the film starts in 11 cinemas across the UK on 3rd April 2011.

The film follows a macaw named Blu who is off on an adventure of a lifetime to; yep you guessed it, Rio! Leaving the safe and comfortable environment of his cage he travels from Minnesota to exotic Rio de Janeiro. Blu is the last of his kind and news of a female macaw prompts scientists to take him to Rio – the only problem being he is scared of flying – the whole film sounds like a hoot.

Venues and how to claim

The Empire, Leicester Square will be one of the premier venues with Sky promising a ‘day of family fun’. Users can claim up to four tickets by registering on the sky website, if tickets are still available they can choose from Birmingham, Bristol Cribbs, Cardiff, Cheshire Oaks, Edinburgh OMNI, Greenwich O2, Hull Princess Quay, Leeds Light, London Leicester Square, North Finchley and Portsmouth.

So no Angry Birds insight but a great offer from sky with the partner film.

Sky to Screen Rio 3D for Free – No Angry Birds insight is a post from: Gadgets and gizmos

At the time LG were given the benefit of the doubt and authorities in Holland took an entire shipment of PS3 and impounded them indefinitely. The Hague’s civil court has now ordered LG to release all of the consoles for distribution throughout Europe. This doesn’t mean the legal proceedings are over but has resulted in LG supposedly being hit with some pretty hefty fines.

LG will have to pay all of Sony’s legal fees, reportedly €130,000 and a €200,000 fine for each day that the consoles remain in storage but it is highly unlikely the Korean electronics giant will take this lightly although one has to assume they are now in the driving seat.

IP expert Florian Mueller was philosophical about today’s news: “This means Sony can resume the distribution of PlayStations across Europe for now, but there will be a full-fledged legal proceeding to determine whether there is an infringement – and if so, how much Sony owes LG for it.”

If Sony are found to be in breach of the patent it would certainly cost them more than the fine LG had to pay.

Today Airties, who are huge in Turkey, have released the dual pack of their Air 4420 wireless device which we were lucky enough to demo on Tuesday. Basically you connect one of the devices to your wireless router and one to your network enabled TV or Player then press a button on both and hey presto you can access all the internet enabled services on your TV plus any pc’s media content on the network. If you have more than one TV or player you can simply add extra boxes (again installed with a touch of a button) creating a ‘mesh’ without loss of signal.

During the demo we managed to stream a football match on one TV, from a laptop to another TV in another room and using Plug player watched another film on our iPad. All with fluid, high quality picture. This is mainly due to the 5GHz 22 channel system that supports up to 300Mbps over wireless networks resulting in no choke points or slow downs.

Another nifty feature of the Air 4420 is the ability to connect an external USB drive, effectively creating a cost effective wireless NAS device. This allows users to drag and drop media onto the drive to be used even when their PC is off – a nice touch for a system in this price bracket.

When we asked Jim Lomax about future products he revealed that their IP players and set top box options would also be available in the UK in the future, this would effectively allow people to convert any existing TV into a media streamer with services like iPlayer and Lovefilm.

So if you want an easy way to connect your DNLA device to the internet without streaming issues it looks like the Airties system could do the job. Keep an eye out for our review later this week.

It seems the French also buy into this train of thought as they are the first European country to provide 3D porn on demand. The service is the brain child of Marc Dorcel, a French TV company that feels porn should have an extra dimension.

The service initially will host 60 3D films from a range of genres and categories which might make many people feel uncomfortable and embarrassed but on the flip side will certainly make a larger group of people happy. This could be the stimulus (excuse the pun) that the 3D industry needs.

Whether the introduction of 3D porn will increase the sales of 3D tv’s in France remains to be seen. Some say it’s what it was invented for, What do you think?

Currently Playstation 3 users can already access the channel Five catch up service via the web browser; in fact they make up around 3% of current users of the service.   Media Week has reported new info revealing that a dedicated app may become available to PS3 owners.

The addition of the app will further increase the number of users accessing Demand Five through their PS3, users will be able to access shows such as CSI, Fifth Gear, Home and Away and of course the Gadget Show any time they want.
