Netflix has been available on the iOS operating system for some time, great news for Apple owners but bad news for Android device owners – mainly because up until now they have not had Netflix. Thankfully an announcement has been made revealing Netflix will be available on Android phones from early 2011 (perhaps in line with the long awaited Gingerbread handsets). In part of the Netflix announcement blamed the late release on a “lack of a generic and complete platform security”. Another concern Netflix had was they had not secured...

Blackberry owners whose own handsets running at least 4.5 can now download the updated version of the Facebook application from Blackberry App World. The updates include the ability to read messages in a list, a tidy up of your friends list and users can now search for people and places. The most notable update has to be the inclusion of Facebook places. The service, which in many ways is similar to FourSquare allows users to ‘check in’ their location on their wall using the built in GPS on their Blackberry handset. This allows users...

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS is set to land in the very near future which is stirring phone and tech lovers into frenzy. If that wasn’t enough to get users excited a leak on Engadget has revealed one of the first handsets to make use of Gingerbread, analysts agree that it will probably be the flagship model when devices start to roll out with Android next year. The device looks to have either a 4.3 or a 4.5 inch (more probable) super Amoled 2 (Samoled 2) screen, includes a high end 1.2 GHz processor, is rumoured to shoot in full 1080p...

It seems Microsoft is planning an upgrade to its popular Windows phone 7 after users were left scratching their heads when the firm left cut and paste off its list of functions. A blog post by a Microsoft director revealed that this addition will be made in the next few weeks with many industry experts pencilling in an upgrade date of early 2011. Microsoft has responded to users concerns by saying “Critics have commented on the lack of specific features like copy & paste and lack of 100s of thousands of new applications,” Shah...

The HTC Legend has not been as fortunate as the HTC Desire because it still runs on Android 2.1; in fact users are desperate for the Froyo update and happily HTC and carriers are set to deliver over the coming weeks. This is the first time HTC has mentioned the update for the legend specifically, before they have only mentioned that all their handsets would receive the update in 2010. HTC sent out a press release via their Facebook page informing users that the HTC Legend will receive the long awaited Froyo update within the next few weeks...

The Skyfire iPhone app was always going to be a phenomenon because it was set to enable iPhone users to watch Flash animation, graphics, and video clips on their Apple devices. Skyfire were clearly unaware of just how popular it would prove to be, though, as their servers crumpled under the pressure of people rushing to download their app. It had even been released a day early on Wednesday of this week but it only managed a few hours of being downloaded by just about everybody. Apple devices, including the iPod, iPad, and iPhone do not...

We spoke the other day about the Playstation phone rumours and how Sony must be thinking of something big if they are to knock Apple, HTC and even Google off their Smartphone stride.  It seems there was some truth in the rumours as Sony’s chief financial officer has confirmed the device – well sort of. The leaked photographs showed the alleged device from all angles including the slide out d-pad that will supposedly be used for the Playstation Function. It was also revealed that the device would run the brand new Android Gingerbread...

Rumors of the Playstation phone are gathering speed all over the internet, the term Playstation phone is trending on Google, Twitter and picking up pace on facebook. Blogs have been posting leaked pictures of the handheld console in an effort to quench the thirst of fans – we are also very excited and have been digging around for information on the phone. The phone is likely to feature a slide out keyboard and large screen, it’s unclear on whether the phone will have a touch screen but judging by the photographs of the rumored prototype...

The HTC Desire HD has become widely available in the UK over the past week; praise has been widespread with reviewers impressed with the new handset, however many people are confused with the latest addition to the HTC range as for some it seems like a sideways movement rather than a progression. To me this is a little difficult to comprehend, especially when you consider the differences in the phones specs. The new phone has a bigger and better screen, uses the brand spanking new version of Android – newer is better, right? Reviewers...

OK, there’s cool inventions and emerging technology and then there’s just plain weird and freaky, and scientists from Belfast have just about managed to cross the line from one into the other but it’s kind of difficult to tell exactly which way they headed over the line and whether they’re cool or weird. In all honesty, the idea of members of the public becoming network nodes isn’t as odd as it sounds. There’s not even the slightest suggestion of microchips being injected under the skin, which has to...
