Once upon a time you could apparently buy anything from Harrods – even an African elephant and today saw the release of something equally extravagant but a whole lot more shiny – a crystal backed Samsung Galaxy tab available to the richest tech lovers for £2,699.

The exclusive tab was revealed to an astounded public last night at a joint event between Harrods and the technology retailer Micro Anvika. The upgraded tab has to be one of the best customized around but the changes are only skin deep.

You get the same LCD screen, same 1 GHz processor and runs the same Android Froyo 2.2 OS. So the same technical specs but with the addition of no less than 5,700 Swarovski crystals, which amazingly have all been installed by hand – that would explain the price mark up!

The official press release said “The crystalisation technique used has been honed to absolute perfection, with outstanding quality of workmanship which ensures every crystal is precisely positioned in its own perfect space. The Galaxy Tab logo is also elegantly recreated in Jet Hematite, producing a unique design that can be customised to individual taste.”

The blinged up tablet might not to be to everyone’s taste but happily Micro Anvika are taking custom orders through their store at Harrods. So you could have more bling, a pattern or whatever you like really.

What gadget would you cover in crystals?
