Last week a rumour surfaced surrounding the Xbox 720 console, gaming developers Crytek supposedly revealed that they were working with the next generation console. At the time neither Microsoft or Crytek commented on the apparent leak, this week the latter has spoken out and denied the rumours.
“Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail,” a rep from Crytek confirmed.
This could mean one of two things, either Crytek is working with Xbox 720 hardware and are trying to cover up last weeks leak or they never had it in the first place and the ‘high-ranking source’ was just telling porkies or never existed.
After last weeks ‘leak, a number of other sources came forward to give predictions on the new hardware. John Carmack predicted that both the PS4 and Xbox 720 would come with ten times more power than the current models, although this went down well in some camps, others were quick to point out there is plenty of life left in current consoles.
Crytek also seemed to be content with the latest offerings, they explained “Crytek are working at pushing the boundaries of what current technology can bring.”
So we are back to square one, maybe we will see the Xbox 720 at E3 2012, or maybe we won’t. What would you like to happen?
