Driving with a Drone: The Renault Kwid

When you buy a brand new car you expect certain things, like nice upholstery and a smooth ride.  What you don’t expect is, well, a drone.

The Renault Kwid is a concept car which was recently shown off at the Delhi Motor Show. Apart from the usual stuff you would expect on a new car these days it’ll have the added bonus of its very own quad-copter drone.

The idea behind this is that as you drive along you set the drone off to check out the traffic situation up ahead or just to take some nice aerial pictures of you driving in your new car.

The driver gets fed back live video of what the drone sees and can control his flying buddy on the tablet computer which is fitted onto the dashboard.

The Kwid was unveiled in India because that is the market where it is expected to be first released as a production model, if it ever gets to that stage. However, it is also rumoured to be possibility for the streets of the UK as well. If it is given the go-ahead to move into production status then it is expected that the first models will be ready in a couple of year’s time.

Renault are calling it a vehicle with “hyper connectivity” but as well as this it is also described as being “robust”. It is just over 3 and a half metres long and looks as though it could handle some tough conditions as well as city streets.  However, gadgets fans are more likely to be intrigued by the drone that comes with it.

Do you like the idea of having a car with its own drone?
