After a long wait O2 has finally announced the Sony Xperia Play is available to order from their website and stores. They have also revealed that they will carry the white handset exclusively for the near future.
The two month delay put O2 customers behind other networks, a fact that was constantly questioned. O2 has admitted the problems came down to software, they could have launched on a glitchy system but decided to wait until teething problems had been remedied.
Despite being the last major UK network to receive the gaming centric handset, O2 customers will be the first to have a white version. Both black and white handsets are available for £430 on pay as you go or for free on a £37 per month contract. Customers who opt for the latter will receive 900 minutes with unlimited text messages per month. O2 also include 500mb of data and a choice of three extra games on top of the seven that come pre-loaded on the Xperia Play.
Sony has been planning a so called ‘Playstation phone’ for years and the Xperia Play is the first handset to come with a traditional playstation layout as standard, gamers can purchase original playstation titles and new games via the built in store. The format has proven very popular and O2 customers can now get a piece of the action too.
