Gran Turismo 5 Glitches Patch Coming Saturday 27th November

Posted on Nov 25 2010 - 9:04pm by Richard Sharp

After a five year hiatus Gran Turismo 5 for the Playstation 3 finally went on sale yesterday with thousands of gamers queuing across the land to get their hands on something that they hoped would be perfection. However after they got home, loaded the data and started to play some gamers discovered that all is not well with GT5 and much like Call of Duty: Black Ops requires a patch.

Gamers have discovered issues with online updates, basically when the game performs the update it causes such a strain that the game slows down and in some cases crashes completely.

Thankfully the patch is due to be released on Saturday 27th November 2010, three days after initial launch and aims to ‘refine usability’ to make the game a more enjoyable and realistic experience. The admission came from Kazunori Yamauchi, head of Polyphony Digital – the creators of Gran Turismo.

GT5 - Patch to come on saturday

He also said “We’re going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions. It’s like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak.”

“Online updates are planned of course for leader boards and matchmaking – all planned in the process of evolution,” added Yamauchi. “The data centre was set up to handle 500,000 connections but the number of connections we received greatly exceeded that amount and there was a high chance of experiencing problems as a result.”

So basically the server could not cope with the initial strain of millions of gamers updating at the same time, today seems to be a little quieter but people are still experiencing major delays with some fans reporting loading times of over an hour.

Have you experienced any problems when updating your data?

I'm happy to say that i've has no problems and am just enjoying this incredible game!

I'm unhappy to say that I have had an incredibly frustrating attempted online game session this evening, which ultimately resulted in us playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit instead. After such a long wait, and such a huge marketing hype, would it be unreasonable to have hoped they would have anticipated demand a little more accurately? I mean, it's not like they didn't have well over 500000 pre-orders. Really disappointed….

No way of changing tyres? Anyone else had this problem?

im experiencing a visual glitch/bug on gt5 its like the backround cant keep up with the game while racing seems like there is a horizontal stutter for a split second any one else experiencing this?

  5. Richard November 26, 2010 at 4:19 pm - Reply

    Ruan,

yes I've also experience this screen stutter. Infact this is why I searched the forum to see if anyone else was getting it. I find it is happening when there's a lot of graphics to deal with (usually when there are mutlipe cars close in front of you.). I hope they can get a patch sorted for this also as it's really frustrating. More so, Gran Turismo for the Ps2 didn't have this issue so why shoud a faster more effecient system struggle?

Hype? What is all this hype people talk about? It is all peoples imagination! They read, dream and fill in the gaps of untold information with their own expectations. And when reality doesn't deliver, they bitch and complain. And all i hear is "they had five years to develop this"… bitch bitch bitch. The game needs some work I agree, but the realism of the vehicle dynamics is uncanny. The change of handling characteristics due to weather and changes in temperature is amazing. Real world drivers say the same thing.

Well I've bought it today and it will not download the data to the hard drive, keeps crashing and freezing the screen

Pretty crap after 5 years of development!

I may be returning this to the shop on Monday

I'm frustrated. The game lacks a lot of features it's competitors have mastered. While they do have rally, which is a nice feature, they lack may common cars that are present in competitors. It seems that to get to 1k cars they simply created tons of similar models. There's 21 MX-5's. You can't buy a truck from a dealership you have to get it used and even then you're lucky if catch it when it is there. There's no RUF dealership. There's no Pontiac dealership. The Veryon has 350 less hp than it actually has. There's an obvious bias toward Japanese cars that steals the realism right out of the game. The cars handle pretty well, nothing that hasn't been done yet. IRacing has a lot less cars but their handling characteristics are leaps and bounds ahead of this game. The 15 min to play loading times while connected to the net has added another layer of frustration to the game. The menus are cumbersome and unintuitive. Why do you have to go to a different shop to apply areo modifications? No car damage? There's a lot of things that work exactly like they did on GT4 and the graphics are good.

In the end I am disappointed with the results. I'll play it through because I love racing sims but this is by far and away not the best one I've played.

i dont know if anyone else has noticed, but the rev meter in the cockpit view only displays half of your actual rpm (so if im redlining at 8000, the guage says 4000)

I am having trouble loading eiger nordwand short track. It loads the bar completely full and never goes into the race. The music plays normal and stops a couple minutes after load. I have tried in he beginner set races and amateur races. I also tried the practice. I still have the same outcome. It will not go into race. I'm stuck on the screen with the list of cars going across the top and the load bar is full. Anyone suggestions? Would appreciate it.

    Thanks chris

I can't load Eiger Nordwand short track either!

What car(s) do you have active when you try to load the track?

    I have a '61 jaguar.

Also, have you installed the game to the hard drive? I haven't yet, but today I am in the hopes that loading the track to the drive will solve the problem.

Other than that, I'm at a loss. I've searched for solutions to this problem and found none and it doesn't seem like many people have this problem…

I'm loading the classic race with a 69 camaro. But it also doesn't load in any other mode. I can't even get it to load in practice mode. And I 'DO' have it installed on the hardrive. Only thing I can think of is updating my ps3? We don't have Internet here so I will have to take it somewhere. I'll let you know with my outcome. Let me know what happens with yours also thanks

Does anybody have a solution to this problem. London track will not load. Changed the game and still same problem.

  16. Dave February 7, 2011 at 10:38 pm - Reply

So far ive found 2 races that won't load – the British lightweight in Professional series ( tried both tracks ) and special stage route 5 in the Tuned Car Championship on Expert Series, in all cases it stays on the loading screen with progress bar full, music playing etc.

I can't get the 8gb optional update on either, left it trying once for over 7 hours with no joy.

I have just encountered the same problem with track(s) not loading….

i am currently level 9 a spec, only had the game a short while, and i have found that "circuit de la sarthe 2009 no chicanes" will not load on the classic cars race, beginner series, yet since i found this i have had no problems racing in other events.

any insight into a solution would be grateful, and if i manage to find a solution i will post here too. thanks

I rang Playstation and explained my race loading issues. They said it was probably because i could not get the optional 8gb update on and advised me to use an ethernet cable instead of using wireless and gave me some port numbers to open on my router. If the update is optional why should races be affected and also i have already downloaded stuff before, other game updates, a mini game etc.

    Here is email from playstation…
    Hello Chris,

Thank you for writing us about your PlayStation®3 system freezing. I understand as to why the freezing does concern you. I suggest deleting your Game Data Utility for Gran Turismo 5. And then reinstall the game by inserting the disc into your PlayStation®3 system. But before you reinstall it I would have you go into Safe Mode and select option # 3 [Restore File System] and then reinstall it, then if that was not successful #5 [Restore PS3 System]. I have provided links below to further assist you on how to do both.

To do so you would go to [Game] on the XrossMediaBar™> [Game Data Utility] and search for the games you are having the issues with and select the triangle button and select delete. Please note that deleting [Game Data Utility] will not delete any of your game information.

[Restore File System] – Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered. This option may also be successful in fixing issues where the system freezes in relation to the [XrossMediaBar™] XMB, loading game or downloaded content, installing game or firmware data, etc.

[Restore PS3 System] – IMPORTANT: All data will be lost by performing this step.
This will reformat the hard drive on the PLAYSTATION 3, deleting all data and restoring it to back to its original factory specifications, as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB.

To do so I have provided a link below to walk you through to get into [Safe Mode].
