iPhone software fix to solve reception problems

Apple have confirmed that the dropped calls and generally bad reception which have led to many user’s complaints have a simple explanation; the unit calculates and displays an inaccurate and misleading signal level.

It had been assumed that the problems were related to the way in which the user was holding the iPhone. However, Apple have stated that the phones may sometimes show two bar reception levels when the local coverage is really lower.

It is believe that all versions and generations of the iPhone are affected and will therefore benefit from the fix once available.

The update should be available in a couple of weeks. We will, of course, provide more details once they are released by Apple.
