L.A Noire PS3 Overheating: It’s Not Our Fault

Posted on May 21 2011 - 9:01pm by Thomas Sharp

It’s not my fault, so it must be your fault. Actually, let’s say that it is no one’s fault.

That, in a nutshell, seems to be the gist of the joint statement from Sony and Rockstar. They say that there have been a “very small number” of complaints and customer support enquiries about the PS3 overheating and turning itself off when people were playing L.A. Noire.

First off all Rockstar had blamed the Sony PS3 firmware update number 3.61 for the problem, so it was Sony’s fault? But then it was revealed by Sony that the Xbox 360 has the same problem. So it was Rockstar’s fault?

As this point the two firms went for the rather novel approach of issuing a joint statement saying that neither was to blame. Or least that “neither L.A. Noire nor firmware update 3.61” is behind the overheating issue.

So what is the real cause of the problem? Hopefully it will be revealed soon, as games are more concerned about getting the thing solved than pointing the finger at the guilty party. Both companies state they are working to find out the reason for this issue.

If you have not seen L.A. Noire yet it is a game set in 1947 Los Angles and done in a film noir style. LAPD official Cole Phelps is the character you play as you wade through the murky underworld and deal with nasty criminals.

Have you had a problem when playing L.A. Noire? Did you notice and goblins or leprechauns messing with your machine while you were playing or could someone else be to blame?

I tried to install the game onto the hard drive of my Xbox 360 slim and the console kept resetting itself.
Now when I turn the console on the dashboard will not load and console resets again. Waiting for Microsoft to phone me back on Monday morning but it looks like console will be going off for repair. I only bought the console at Christmas. My previous console, a 360 Elite had to go off for repair when it was only nine months old. It was Fable 2 that caused that problem. I have lost all confidence in Xbox 360s.
Just when Microsoft tell us that they have fixed all the 360 problems it seems that they haven't.

It's a pretty easy fix don't worry. I caught YLOD with my Fat Model like 3x's. I fixed it and it's still going strong. With the proper tools and knowledge you can fix it no problem.

This is the only game that causes my PS3 to overheat. I can only play for 30 minutes or less before the system shuts down. I hope they are able to fix the problem, but it is very frustrating.

It happen for me too. I have to pause to let the system cool down in every 3 min or so. Irritating.

So Rockstar replied to my PS3 overheating ticket saying that they've "confirmed" LA Noire is not the cause of the problem. Are they not taking our feedback seriously? My console works perfectly fine with EVERY other game. LA Noire is the ONLY game that causes problems with my console and forces it to shutdown, sometimes even within 5 minutes of starting the game. So, I must conclude the LA Noire is the cause. What other explanation could there be? I believe Rockstar's "confirmation" is in error and plead with them to reinvestigate the issue. From their reply, it sounds like they are abandoning the customers that paid good money for their game…

Why does the game get a superfluous 'e' on the end?

I installed the 3.61 update yesterday and within minutes I got the YLOD, and I wasn't even playing any games. I had zero problems before hand and I can't think of any other reason why my PS3 should have suddenly died.
