Have you ever tried converting your guitar tracks to MIDI synth, but you realize that some issues, like signal lag and pitch issues, hinder you from getting the sound you want? Most recording enthusiasts do. While getting the right pitch and timing is not really impossible, you’ll just end up spending more time doing more work than expected. M3i Industries introduced a new product that will help you solve your recording problems.
Germany’s M3i Technologies revealed a system to accurately detect the pitch of a string before the player plucks it. The Laser Pitch Detection (LPD) is a new technology that detects pitch using lasers. The LPD runs a laser beam from the guitar nut all the way to the bridge, so when a guitar player touches a string, the length of the beam calculates the correct pitch.
According to the M3i website, “While playing the guitar, the finger will shorten the distance by pressing the string onto the fingerboard. At this moment the finger interrupts the laser beam and reflects the light back towards a number of photo elements which are also located inside the LPD pickup.”
The LPD allows your guitar to become a MIDI controller, like most synth keyboards that are commercially available. What’s good about this device is it has no latency, so you’ll get the perfect timing when recording MIDI. The LPD is also designed to work with your smartphone too.
