Microsoft Corp. has opened a new blog and Twitter account to keep its partners and customers updated with the progress and development of its next-generation operating system, Windows 8. Windows President Steven Sinofsky made the blog’s first post titled “Building Windows 8,” sharing new information about the OS and describing the site’s purpose to developers, end-users and information professionals.
Sinofsky mentioned that a pre-release version of Windows 8 will be available “over the coming months,” which will be only for developers. If the process is similar to what they did in Windows 7, the company could provide a Windows Release Candidate to users before its public release.
Microsoft was criticized by many for not engaging its partners during the Vista’s development process, which left a number of hardware and software to be incompatible with the OS. Vista was considered to be one of Microsoft’s worst, which prompted them to release the better Windows 7.
“Together, we will start the unique adventure of bringing a major product to market,” wrote Sinofsky. “Windows 8 reimagines Windows. That’s a big statement and one that we will return to throughout this blog.”
The blog welcomes criticism and comments from its visitors, as well as the Windows 8 staff. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions and suggest blog topics for consideration.
