Paul Cézanne 172nd Birthday Celebrated with Google Doodle

January 19th 2011 is the 172nd birthday of famous artist Paul Cézanne, the master artist who specialized in still life paintings. The Google Doodle team has been busy knocking together a tribute to the great man which is why a still life befitting his work has replaced the standard Google logo today.

Like previous doodles the ‘painting’ based logo mimics the shape of the letters that make up the usual logo, the g for instance is made up by a jug and cloth where as the two O’s are made up by plates that follow a similar style to “Still Life with a curtain” and “Still life with an open drawer which were both painted by Cézanne.

Cézanne has been described as a visionary who was ahead of his time, like many artists his work was not fully appreciated until well after he had died. The team at Google have done there part to ensure the current generation can experience his work by linking the logo to search results about the artist, if you want to learn more or just take a minute to appreciate one of the most famous French artists of all time just hit the logo with a mouse click.

What do you make of today’s Cézanne Google Doodle and which is your favourite painting?
