Every day, modders from all over are working hard into making excellent video game console mods, but there are times when keeping it all simple works better. A Reddit user named “timofiend” made a gaming console mod, putting together an Xbox 360 Slim and an 80 GB PlayStation 3 into one PC case.
“Spent the last month or so working on this, has a new Xbox 360 slim inside, and an 80 gig PS3 (normal one not the slim, as I couldn’t afford to buy two new consoles for this project I just used mine),” said user timofiend on the /r/gaming portion of social network/link provider website Reddit.com.
The Redditor is working on releasing the documentation on the mod’s building process and is proud to announce that he has not experienced any major issues.
In terms of overheating, timofiend revealed that he did not use liquid cooling devices because it was too expensive. When both consoles are turned on at the same time, the temperature goes around 37 to 38 degrees Celsius (98.6 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for the Xbox 360 and 38 to 39 degrees Celsius (100 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit) for the PlayStation 3.
“Fan cooling, the Xbox 360 is using the stock cooler on the machine (on the new slim so the stock fan/heatsink assembly is much better than the original Xbox ones) and the ps3 uses an assembly I made, which is pretty much just a 120mm fan with a shroud redirecting air to flow through the heatsink,” he said on a post. “That was the one I was most worried about, and shall be keeping a very close eye on.”
This seems like a good idea if you want to have an all-in-one device for games. Maybe timofiend could put in a Wii or a Wii U in there some time in the future.
