Research in Motion’s BlackBerry Playbook tablet PC has overtaken Apple’s iPad as the most sought after tablet in the market, according to a study conducted by money saving site ILoveCashback.com
According to the site’s statistics for the month of July, the BlackBerry Playbook is attracting 22 percent more searches than other leading tablets, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab and market leader Apple iPad 2.
ILoveCashback.com said that the term ‘tablet’ is becoming the number one tech search word, followed by ‘3D TV’ and ‘Games Console.’
“The Playbook is definitely moving ahead of the iPad and we can also see that people are placing orders for it,” said ILoveCashback’s Managing Director Brad Blake. “Tablet is the number one search term followed by 3D TVs such as the Samsung 40-inch, and then game consoles such as Xbox 360, although the Xbox 360 seems to be losing its share to its Sony rival, the Playstation 3.”
He added that the Amazon Kindle ebook reader is becoming more and more popular, with searches up by 21 percent last month.
“It’s fascinating to watch the trends emerge live and as tech fans are probably the fastest bargain hunters on the net. It means we have to be on top of our game to make sure they find the bargains they are looking for using all three of our price-busting options,” he added.
Although the research seems to suggest a growing trend in tablet sales it’s not surprising that the Playbook would feature more heavily than other tablets, Apple has a strong stance against discounting or even incentivising sales through affiliates which therefore would provide a lower search volume on a cash back site.
What do you think, is Apple losing their grip on the tablet market or is this researched too closed to say either way?
