After unveiling the 10.1 inch version at MWC last week it seems that Samsung are not going to shy away from a more petite version of their Galaxy Tab as plans are leaked for another 8.9 inch version. So the range will comprise of a 7 inch, a 8.9 inch and 10.1 inch line up – it’s not clear why, when, how or indeed where each version will be available as the common belief is that the different models will serve different regions.
If rumours are true then the new model is likely to be available through mobile phone networks as a stop gap between the current 7 inch model and the full fat 10.1 inch, therefore it would be logical to assume that the stats may also meet somewhere in the middle.
Samsung have not made an official comment on the rumours and are unlikely to, it is widely believed that we could see the 8.9 inch model as early as next month putting it right in Apple iPad 2, Motorola Xoom and HP touchpad territory.
Samsung are clearly gunning for Apple’s crown in a big way and could be attempting to outmanoeuvre the Cuppertino based giant who are also rumoured to be preparing two new models for 2011, one being the iPad 2 with the iPad 3 rumoured to be launching in September – perhaps the latter will be a mini iPad to rival the Playbook and Samsung Galaxy Tab. For clearer answers we will have to wait and see.
Do you think Samsung and other companies need a variety of different sized tablets?
