Samsung Galaxy Tab Upgrade to Android Gingerbread and Honeycombe OS?

As you know the Samsung Galaxy tab went on sale  this month and it seems there are already updates in the pipeline, namely the future upgrade to both Android Gingerbread and Honeycomb.

Information from a Samsung insider was leaked to Phandroid; they say that the tablet will receive the updates in the very near future – possibly before Christmas.

The reason I say the updates might be available for the Galaxy tab upon release is because the Samsung ‘rep’ couldn’t provide exact dates for the upgrade, however it was revealed that Gingerbread OS 2.3 will be released before Christmas 2010.

The Galaxy tab launched with the current Froyo 2.2 OS which many argue is not the best system to run a tablet on, we can only hope Samsung move with the update quickly – I am sure they will as they will want to move in on the iPad as quick as humanly possible. We will have to wait and see.

Would the promise of an OS update sway you to buy a Galaxy tab?

  • I already have the Tab and have had no problems with Froyo - obviously if there are improvements that can be made then great but I think the big changes will come with Honeycomb next year. Having said that I'd love to know when Gingerbread is available.

Loving my Galaxy Tab, by the way :)
