Samsung Will Launch Galaxy Tab 10.1 Despite iPad 2 Challenge

Yesterday we reported on comments from a senior VP at Samsung who seemingly suggested that they would slim down their new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to match the iPad 2. Today another piece of news suggests that this may have been a ‘language barrier’ and that Sammy will push on undeterred and release the Galaxy Tab 2 unchanged.

Many, us included, feel that Apple’s second gen tab has and indeed will have an affect on other tablet manufacturers – Samsung included. The fruit flavoured company has brought a new product to market with better specs than their current model whilst still managing to keep prices exactly the same – that’s a terrifying battle plan no matter how you spin it.

However, Samsung aren’t about to lay down and die and have recently announced another Tab that will be added to the existing 7 inch and new 10inch line up. Perhaps this 8.9 inch version will be the one to be thinner and lighter to match Apple’s specs. Allthingsdigital has recently picked apart an invite to Samsung Mobile Unpacked which shows the code 78910, the 89 part has been linked to the hotly tipped 8.9 inch model which will sit slap bang between the 7 and 10.1 inch Galaxy Tablets.

The suggestion that new Galaxy Tab will match Apple’s price hasn’t been challenged by Samsung but they haven’t confirmed it either – so at least lower prices are still on the cards.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has better specs than the iPad2 in just about every respect from surround sound stereo speakers to better cameras to higher resolution and being lighter as well. The only ‘spec’ the iPad has over the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is 2mm of thickness which 99% of people would not even notice. Much more notable will be watching movies and playing music and video games in mono on the one speaker iPad2…seriously, who wants to do that? The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the best spec’d Honeycomb tablet out there and we’re excited to get our hands on one.
