Sony’s new PlayStation Vita handheld gaming console hasn’t been released, but the company is already hinting that they are working on a new hardware that is equipped with 3D visuals. Reports say that Sony is now working hard to reinvent the forgotten Virtual Reality technology.
In an interview with gaming website Develop, Mike Hocking, Sony Worldwide Studios’ senior director, explained how they began testing the new Virtual Reality technology with gaming platforms. He said that the company is working on a couple of games and are now experimenting with VR-type experiences.
“We’ve got a new head mounted display, that we showed at Consumer Electronics Show. At the moment it’s just a head-mounted display, the head isn’t being tracked, but that’s something we’re doing R&D on.”
“I have to say, what we’ve done in the R&D projects has just been fantastic. We’re working with a couple of games at Sony that are experimenting with virtual reality type experiences.”
The director has been very positive about the technology’s comeback. He said that the technology has advanced to a point where gaming can realize the aims that were set out for it in the nineties. He also said that it could become popular again with consumers.
