Sony Xperia X12 Anzu Lacks Android Gingerbread

Over the last few days a lot of people have been getting very excited about the Sony Experia (Xperia) X12 Anzu, many thought that the brand new Sony flagship would come pre-loaded with Android Gingerbread – sadly this isn’t the case and the handset will be launched on Froyo 2.2.

Eldar Murtazin of mobile-review.com managed to get hold of a review unit which actually was running Android 2.1, he was reliably informed the handset will launch complete with 2.2 with Gingerbread coming a little down the line (possibly as late as Summer 2011).

The leak has also confirmed that the device will have a 4.3 inch LCD screen, a 12 megapixel camera (that shoots 720p video, not 1080p) and a rumoured 800MHz Qualcomm processor. According to Eldar it’s pretty quick too. He also confirmed Sony will layer their own software over the Android OS – much in the same was as HTC Sense interface.

One thing you need to remember is that these reports are based on a prototype model, therefore comments about the casing being poor quality and other observations could all be ironed out before the device is available officially.

Sony is becoming a joke in the Android phone world. 800MHz Qualcomm and Froyo? When will they stop releasing last year's phone? The only good thing about their phones are the displays, and even those are no match for Samsung's.

I guess that for a phone that's up to standards for 2010 we have to wait for 2012.

Just as well, i wouldn't want my phone to spy on me and rat me to MPAA if i put an mp3 on it.
