It seems Sony still believe niche phones are better than all singing all dancing smartphones, they have a Walkman based phone, the Xperia Play gaming phone but now are rumoured to be preparing a Cyber-shot centred phone hailing back to the days when their phones were more camera than phone.
The phone will have a few more tricks up it’s sleeve as it will be powered by Android, no indication on which version but the most logical choice would be Gingerbread. At this stage the Cyber-shot smartphone is purely speculation born from a blurry spy shot leaked on the Xperia Blog.
The photo shows a three buttoned device similar to the Xperia Arc and a logo which looks a lot like Cybershot branding. The cyber-shot phones of old were arguably the best camera phones around at the time and Sony will hope the goodwill associated with cyber-shot will make a new Android powered phone as popular as the original range.
Do you think there is still a Market for high quality camera phones or are current handsets man enough to cope with people’s needs?

I have been waiting and waiting for Sony to release a phone which would give me the brilliant camera of my C905 (which I still use because no phone has come out which betters it!) and combine it with touchscreen and Android. My ideal would be a handset like the new Mini Pro with an 8-10MP camera with xenon flash and sliding lens cover. The Altek leo never materialised and I don't want a big phone which I can't take out on a night out, runs out of juice quickly and which could easily get smashed. The Satio was tempting but I didn't like the clunky UI. So yes I would LOVE these rumours to be true – and soon because I really need a new phone!!!!!
