One of the features that the Apple iPhone 5 is rumored to have is it will sport both CDMA and GSM radios in one device, which means that the next-generation iPhone should be able to run on any mobile carrier around the world. Verizon and AT&T have been carrying the iPhone 4, and rumors have surfaced that Sprint will be carrying the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5. Reports do not mention T-Mobile as an iPhone carrier, which is quite odd.
A recent T-Mobile employee town hall meeting may confirm why the carrier is not included in the rumors surrounding the new iPhones. According to Cole Brodman, T-Mobile’s chief marketing officer, the carrier will not be getting the iPhone 5 this year.
“Our business is working very hard to improve performance over the last couple of years and we’ve had some great success,” said Brodman as quoted in the report. “We are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year.”
Now, we could speculate that Brodman may be trying to throw everybody off by saying that, or it is just the truth. It might also mean that the carrier won’t be releasing an iPhone this year, or a deal is already in place for the company to launch an iPhone in 2012.
Apple is expected to announce or release the iPhone 5 in a few weeks. It was reported that a cheaper upgrade of the iPhone 4 will be launched alongside the fifth-generation iPhone.
