The announcement of Google’s Android Wear platform was recently made, at the same time as the unveiling of the first products to use it.

Both of the new gadgets are smart watches. LG will bring out one called the G Watch and the offering from Motorola will be called the Moto 360.

Two Different Looks

As of yet, we don’t know a great deal about either of these smart watches. The pictures released show a couple of different looks, though. The Moto 360 has a round face and looks less of a big and bulky device that the existing range of smart watches on the market. The G Watch, on the other hand, has a rectangular face and looks a lot more like the existing models such as the Galaxy gear and the Pebble.

The firms bringing out these initial Android Wear offerings have been involved in some of the latest Google products, such as the Google Nexus phones and the Google Play G Pad tablet. The LG G Watch is going to be compatible with a lot of different Android phones, while the bosses at Motorola haven’t yet confirmed the expected compatibility of the Moto 360.

As for the timescale for the public release, it looks as though the LG watch is going to come out first, as it has been promised for the second quarter of the year. Meanwhile, the Motorola device is expected to come out shortly afterwards, in the summer.  Other Google smart watches are expected to come along afterwards.

Do you intend to buy a smart watch at some point?
