UK man to camp outside Apple Store to wait for the iPhone 5

A 29 year old Apple fanatic from the United Kingdom has camped outside the Apple Store at Covent Garden in anticipation of the release of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5.

Rob Showsmith, a marketing executive for Medl Mobile, is planning to camp outside the said Apple Store in order to be one of the first lucky people to purchase the new iPhone, which has not yet been unveiled by Apple.

The Cupertino tech giant is expected to launch the iPhone 5, along with its new iOS 5 mobile operating system in September.

Shoesmith is not only doing this to get people’s attention, he’s making it a “marketing and PR experiment,” calling it the iPhone 5 Experiment. He left all his money and valuables at home and will depend only on sponsorship, gifts, donations and loans from businesses or anyone who are willing to help. So far, he got a number of sponsors, which include Peter Popple’s Popcorn, a webcam from Skype and many more.

“My longest camping trip to date was a pitiful three days! So how on earth am I going to manage potentially weeks of inner city camping? I will need your help! I will be tweeting and blogging requests of help throughout my stay and it will be interested to see what kind of response I will get from total strangers,” Shoesmith wrote on his blog.

He will be documenting his adventure and the items he receives in his Twitter page, and the official iPhone 5 Experiment site.
