We all know that shopping on the internet is fun but did you realise that the Brits do more of it than anyone else?
If you thought the North Americans, the Canadians or even the Germans were the biggest online spenders around then you were wrong. At an average of an eye watering £1,083 each per year UK residents top the list of internet shoppers from major countries around the world.
If you were wondering who slipped into second place then you might be surprised to see our Australian cousins fill this spot at an impressive £842 each per year.
These figures come out from a comprehensive survey carried out by Ofcom and it seems that the British consumer’s love of mobile devices is one of the main reasons why we spend so much online.
More Data Than You Can Shake a Stick At
Apart from being shopping maniacs it also appears that Brits at data freaks too. We download more data to mobile phones than anyone else on the planet. In the sample month of December 2011 Brits downloaded 424MB on average while second place was taken by the Japanese, who managed 392MB.
Sticking with the mobile theme for a minute, 16% of all of the UK internet traffic now comes from mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablets. In among all that internet frenzy around 40% of adults in the UK now enter social networks from their mobiles, and if we only look at youngsters of between 18 and 24 the figures rises to 62%.
Part of the reason why Britain is such a good place for going online in the way you choose is that it is the cheapest place to get hold of communication packages for phones and broadband internet, although it seems as though other countries as bringing their prices closer to those in the UK.
