This morning Vodafone announced a new range of pay as you go phones aimed at users who want Smartphone capabilities without the huge price tag. Vodafone Smart blends Android, Smartphone tech and personalised covers in an eclectic mix which will only cost around £80 when it goes on sale in the UK later this year.
The handset will come equipped with a 2.8″ QVGA capacitive touch screen measuring in at 56mm x 106mm x 12mm with curved bulky edges. It will run on Android 2.2 and come complete with the usual ensemble of Google apps including mail, maps, Gtalk and of course Android Market. The phone harks back to the good old days of personalisation, with users printing their own designs to slip onto the back of their case – it worked in the past so we guess Vodafone hope it will work now.
The teasers and marketing spiel promise high end functionality at a budget price which puts it right in firing line of the Orange San Francisco handset. Both come with touch screens and both have a camera, on the latter point the Orange handset has the edge but we will have to wait for the actual release before making judgement.
Vodafone has produced a short teaser video which we have included below for your viewing pleasure.
