After less than six years of being out in the market, Sony’s PlayStation 3 has only started giving Microsoft’s Xbox 360 some intense competition with its exclusive titles and price cuts. A new rumor recently came out that is a bit surprising. According to gaming website Bitmob.com, a reliable source from Sony said that the PlayStation 4 is coming out “within the next 18 months.” It said that the fate of the PlayStation 4 has been discussed in a “high-level” meeting just recently.
No further details was given by the source, only saying “PlayStation 4 in 18 months.” Usually, these kinds of statements should not be treated as big news, but the website said that it came from a very trustworthy source.
“Then again, a lot of things feel a bit off here. My source — who, I hasten to add, isn’t a neophyte, an outsider, a gossip, a fake, or a show-off — remains convinced for excellent reasons, and I trust that conviction. PlayStation 4 in 18 months. Done deal,” BitMob writer Rus McLaughlin wrote in the report.
It is a bit hard to believe that Sony will be releasing the PlayStation 4 in 18 months because the console is currently enjoying an increase in sales. If Sony will launch a new console in less than two years, chances are, it won’t have much difference from PlayStation 3.
Do you think it is a good move for Sony to release a new gaming console this early?
