Xbox 360 Live Rewards Gives Gamers Free Virtual Currency

The Xbox live rewards scheme that Microsoft trialled last year obviously made a big impression as it has been officially rolled out today. The new scheme gives Xbox owners the opportunity to claim free Microsoft Points (MS points) when they renew memberships, activating services such as Netflix and take official surveys.

The rewards can be as little as 10 MS points for renewing a single month of the Xbox live service rising to a whopping 400 MS points for buying or renewing a family gold membership.  Users also get a nice welcome bonus of 100 Microsoft Points when they use the service for the first time to buy something.

Microsoft is also offering 20 points for a participating in monthly surveys and 100 points when they activate and use Netflix through their Xbox 360 console. Microsoft is also tantalising early adopters with ‘cool’ prizes when they agree to take part in new promotions or activities.

What do you make of the new Xbox Live rewards scheme?

Any guesses as to why Microsoft would incent Xbox users with free points to activate and use Netflix? They must get paid by Netflix per activation.

Great idea, pity the rewards are so weak. You'd think with the fact xbox live is a paid service anyway compared to sony's playstation network they would be able to reward loyal gamers a bit higher. Are they likely to add 'gaming' rewards such as 100% complete certain games and get MS points rewards? I'd rather that than get an avatar hat for my efforts.
