Earlier in the week it was revealed that the Xbox 720 could be launched at the 2012 E3 expo, its main competitor, the PS4 won’t launch for a couple of years yet but sources have already started talking about the power of the two machines. So what’s the prediction, twice the power? Oh no, much grander than that as a new source tells Eurogamer that both consoles will offer ten times the power of the current models.
John Carmack is the man behind Doom and Quake, he also has a hand in the new title ‘Rage’. When speaking with Eurogamer, he said, “ The next-generation will be here soon, a couple of years. It’ll be another ten times as powerful as this generation. I’d be surprised if that doesn’t last over a decade before people wind up saying, well, we’ve really tapped out everything you could possibly do on there.”
So two bold predictions, first the next generation of consoles will offer 10 time the power and that they will both have a ten year life span. We feel that if true, gamers will be pretty pleased with those predictions.

I presume, when he says "ten times more powerful" that is a figure of speech rather than a statement of fact? Sony are already playing down graphical improvements in the PS4, I really don't see any massive leap in graphics coming any time soon. Sure they might be prettier, but how much more? Is the difference going to be so great that people who are not hardware geeks going to be impressed? Enough to spend a lot of money on a console powerful enough to make that graphical leap?
I think graphics will begin to plateau for a while, at least until the next generation of T.V.'s become popular.
Its been officially stated that the next Xbox will not come until 2015, that's a 10 year life cycle. That being said, I think the performance should be a lot more than 10X the 360. 10 years of technology advances? If it turns out to only be 10X the power, that would be really disappointing.
