700 Years in the Future: Destiny

When a new game is described as “genre defining” and offering a universe which is “as deep” as Star Wars then it is time to sit up and take notice.

The company behind the new game is Bungie and anyone who is a big fan of Halo is probably perking up their ears and eyes and everything else at this point.

There has been little word from the games developer since they split from the Halo franchise a while back but word has been leaked on the internet of a new game from them called Destiny.

They work closely with Activision now and their work on this new game has been a tightly kept secret until now. People from Activision had mentioned a new Bungie game to investors before but this is the first time that the developer has come out and given some details and images of Destiny.

The Last City on Earth

The game is going to be set a mere 700 years in the future and it will involve humans trying to protect the last city left standing on planet Earth from those pesky aliens. It seems as though we tried to colonise the entire solar system but failed and are now left battling just to survive on our own planet.

The screenshot which has been posted certainly whets our appetite for the release of the game and it seems as though it will be available on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Of course, the launch of a Destiny franchise will see it up against the existing Halo series, which could be an interesting tussle between Bungie’s newest game and their old one.
