If you are ever in London then there is a good chance that you either travel in a black cab or at least admire them as they go past.
However, one thing you almost certainly don’t do is view them as cool, cutting edge vehicles because, frankly, they aren’t.
That’s all about to change, though. A brand new black cab has been designed for use in the capital and it looks pretty good. It has been designed by Nissan and will feature a 1.6 litre petrol engine which is cleaner than the diesel ones currently used.
A Re-Design of a Previously Unveiled Model
In fact, if you get the feeling that you have seen this model before then you are probably right. This is because it was first shown to the public back in August of 2012. However, at that time some tweaks to the design were called for, due to some feedback received from the Mayor or London’s office.
The new black cab has been designed by the Nissan European design centre in Paddington, London. As part of the new look the vehicle will feature a new style of grille and rounded headlamps. It also uses LED lighting to make the Taxi sign easier to spot at night. The taxi won’t be on sale until near the end of the year but Nissan has confirmed that it conforms to all of the latest TfL requirements.
The Licensed Taxi Drivers Association said that they are glad to see new cabs going on to the market to increase competition.
