The latest news in the world of gadgets for the discerning motorist comes from Apple, in the form of Apple CarPlay.
This is a new system which is designed to make it easier to reach the most important features of your iPhone while you are behind the wheel. This means better syncing and improvement integration, among other things.
The details were released with the help of a tie-in with manufacturers such as Ferrari, Ford and Mercedes Benz. With the Apple CarPlay system you can use maps, get hold of your favourite songs and make phone calls. It uses Siri voice control to allow drivers to launch the services they want by pressing a button on their car’s steering wheel.
Minimum Distraction for the Driver
Greg Joswiak is the vice president of Apple and he said that one of the big advantages to CarPlay is that it allows motorists to use their iPhone with “minimum distraction”. The main elements of the system are maps, navigation, calls and music. The people at Apple are calling it an “eyes free” phone and entertainment experience.
In terms of the music side of things, you can use song services like Spotify and select tracks just using your voice. You can also your voice to answer phone calls without your hands and to select your next destination.
CarPlay is an iOS 7 update and will work with iPhones which are lightning enables, such as the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s.
The first manufacturers rolling it out are Ferrari, Volvo and Mercedes Benz, with a number of others planning to do so in future models.
