Apple to get a second manufacturer for the iPad 3 production

According to a report from Digitimes, Apple is adding another manufacturer to assemble the new iPad tablet (iPad 2 Plus or iPad HD or the third generation iPad), which could be launched in autumn.

Having a second contractor does not indicate that a new version of the tablet is coming in 2011. The company might be taking steps to reduce production risk by adding contractors.

Digitimes confirms the claim of another Apple tablet to be released this year by saying: “The latest market rumors also indicated that the new iPad may be named iPad 2 plus and will be thinner than its predecessors yet with upgraded display.”

“The new iPads will be launched at the end of the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter, noted the sources. Total shipments of iPad tablet PCs are expected to top 13 million units in the third quarter, estimated the sources.”

The Taiwan-based tech website also said that Pegatron may be the second company to receive the rights to manufacture the iPad, and they may be working with Apple to launch the new iPad on time. Pegatron is the manufacturer of the iPhone 4 and may also receive the iPhone 5 project.

The iPad 3 or the iPad HD is reported to have a Retina Display, which will be more appealing to users of the devices. Hints that leaked from the iOS 5 indicate the higher screen resolution for the next generation iPads.
