AT&T VP says the iPhone 5 will be launched in October

According to a report by tech website Boy Genius Report (BGR), a vice president from AT&T confirmed to some employees that the Apple iPhone 5 will be released in early October this year.

For months now, people have been expecting an announcement from Apple about the iPhone 5 release date. According to the website, the AT&T vice president told his employees that they need to prepare their teams as they are going to be extremely busy in the next 35 to 50 days.

A blog post from TiPb said that the exact iPhone 5 release date could be on October 7, supporting a DigiTimes report that cites an unnamed Taiwan-based maker said that the Cupertino-based company is boosting its iPhone 5 order volume by 12 to 13 percent in the H2 of 2011, expecting to make more than 56 million mobile phones.

A MacRumors report said that price cuts to previous iPhone models would normally mean that the company is preparing for a new model. From August 22, Best Buy is set to offer the 3GS model free of charge with a two year contract, which is said to be a part of a promotion.

The iPhone 5 launch has been a subject of talks in the web lately, with reports saying that the device will be released between September and October. This month, All Things D said that the new phone will be launched in October, but last week, a report from a Japanese site said that the device will be released some time in September. Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam also said that he expects the iPhone to come out this autumn.

So it looks as if we will see the iPhone 5 in 2011, thoughts?
