It seems that no subject is safe from entrepreneurial merchandise designers as a glut of t-shirts, mugs and even baby clothing were available to buy mere hours after Osama Bin Laden had been killed by US Navy Seals. The memorabilia and keepsakes seem to fit into two camps, patriots who are genuinely relieved by the killing of Bin Laden and those that want a cheap laugh.
Most of the designs were uploaded to t-shirt sites such as zazzle.co.uk and cafepress.com, some predictable, some patriotic whilst others look for those with an alternative sense of humour. Many of the designs stuck to the old favourites. Slogans included; we killed Bin Laden and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt, I killed Bin Laden, Hide and Seek Champion and we got him.
Other sellers took to the streets to cash in on the good feeling in Washington and New York selling flags of all sizes at key points such as Ground Zero, judging by the television broadcasts they made a small fortune.
Cafepress.co.uk has been inundated with new designs of bumper stickers, posters, TV shirts and mugs all cantering around the event. It seems that there is quite a demand for celebratory Bin Laden memorabilia with buyers seemingly caught up in the media frenzy surrounding the historical event.
