Call of Duty: Black Ops Downloads on Xbox 360 February 2011

The downloadable and updated content for Call of Duty: Black Ops will arrive in February as predicted, however, due to a deal penned in 2009 the downloadable content (DLC) will come exclusively to the Xbox 360 first with many suggesting a later arrival on the PS3 and pc – how much later is unknown but it is unlikely to be any more than a matter of weeks.

The DLC will cost Xbox users roughly 1000 Microsoft points, which is around £10/$15 in cash terms (based on the info from developers), so users will be expecting some hefty content bearing in mind this is around a quarter of the games original recommended retail price.

Major Nelson, of Xbox Live announced that there will be four all new multiplayer maps plus an extra map for Zombies, called Ascension. No further details are known about the Zombie map but it is known that one of the multiplayer maps will be based on the Arctic Circle level while another will be based on the Hong Kong level. The other two multiplayer maps will be brand new with never before seen maps based on the Berlin Wall and an unconventional Hockey Stadium.

Other details on what else may be included are scarce at this time but expect some added extras as Activision is toying with the idea of not just including maps. Perhaps they will roll out some new single player content or levels. No other game has lent itself for this scenario, Black ops is the first in the series to focus on missions from a variety of different conflicts. Whether Treyarch/Activision decide to go down this route in the future is unknown but would be a welcome addition.

Do you think the price is fair for four added maps? Would you include some other content/extras?

We are sad to hear that over half our stores customers will not be able to download this content for weeks after it is available. If you release a game like Black Ops on 4 different systems not to mention the PC you should release the DLC at the same time. What can we say. It's a bunch of BS that Xbox always gets the DLC first. Because you own a different system you should have to wait on new maps… It's absurd. Playstation… Nintendo… You guys should tell trearch/activision that if they can't release DLC on all the systems simultaneously that they don't get a license for the product. I know that sucks to hear gamers but it is a bunch of corporate BS! Gamers buy their games for the systems they like. Not the system that has the DLC. You keep segregating over half the gaming community and your going to lose customers in the future.

i see your point but i have been told that xbox payed to have it released early only for xbox. But i am not sure if that is true or just a rumor but it still isnt realy fair even though it doesn't effect me because im on xbox your right they should release it at the same time.

I am excited to see the new maps; however, I believe that the price is a few dollars too much. With 5 new maps at the same price at MW2's "Stimulus Package," it appears to fall into the same price range for the same number of maps. Nevertheless, those that play Zombies will want more than just one new map, and those that don't play zombies will feel cheated by one map – as petty as it sounds.

Therefore, why not suggest two separate packages released for Live? Have an "Undead Package" with 4 new maps for $12 and a "Multiplayer Package" with the new 4 maps for $12. It makes more sense. Or even meet halfway with a special combination with 2 new zombie maps and 2 new Live maps. Having three separate packages available for download, giving the players the options, could potentially increase overall sales. Many Live users would buy BOTH, then doubling the originally intended sales!
