Call of Duty: Black Ops has been publicly smashing all sorts of records since its release at the start of November. It has topped sales charts across all formats; there is talk of new downloadable content coming as early as February 2011 and this week the game passed the $1 billion in sales milestone, that’s roughly £648 million.
The figures actually come direct from Activision’s own estimates and goes some way into proving just how successful the game has been so far – bear in mind that this is just the start, expect a glut in sales when people open their stockings to discover the game hasn’t been gifted to them, then another boost in revenue when the DLC comes in February.
Bobby Kotick, head of Activision said “In all of entertainment, only Call of Duty and Avatar have ever achieved the billion dollar revenue milestone this quickly.”
Expect the 600 million hours of online game play that have already been racked up by gamers worldwide to be rapidly increased over the festive period.
