One of the hottest topics at the recent CES event and other tech shows was the connected home and part of this includes networked enabled devices like TV’s, set top players etc. These devices allow the homeowner to access video, photos, on demand services like the BBC iPlayer and more right on their DLNA enabled TV. Now we are sure most people would love to access these services but don’t have the know how to set it up, this is the main stumbling point of connected and smart TV’s. Today Airties, who are huge in Turkey, have released...

When we were at IFA the whole show was rocking out the latest 3D tech, including large screen 3D projectors. When speaking with fellow attendees more than one raised an eye brow when thinking of possible uses for 3D with many of them suggesting one of biggest online trades – porn. It seems the French also buy into this train of thought as they are the first European country to provide 3D porn on demand. The service is the brain child of Marc Dorcel, a French TV company that feels porn should have an extra dimension. The service initially...

Sony are already in cahoots with on demand services like Lovefilm and the revolutionary BBC iPlayer on their internet enabled TV’s and of course the Playstation 3, today more information has been released suggesting that channel Five’s ‘Demand Five’ service might be coming to the PS3 too. Currently Playstation 3 users can already access the channel Five catch up service via the web browser; in fact they make up around 3% of current users of the service.   Media Week has reported new info revealing that a dedicated app may become...

If you think the current 3D TV technology is cool, and you should because it is, then you’ll be completely gobsmacked and in absolute awe at the thought of holographic TVs. They are the ultimate in 3D because the films or sporting events are beamed directly into your room as a holographic display. It may sound like something out of Star Wars because, quite frankly, it is basically in Star Wars but it’s also getting closer and closer to becoming reality. University of Arizona scientists have managed to put together holographic...

Dreamworks Animation, the guys who have made modern greats like Bee Movie, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Over the Hedge have announced its best ever grossing film and the impact this has had on their share price. DVD sales on the whole are actually the lowest they have been in years but DreamWorks has managed to increase their share price by 5 percent in the last quarter. They say this increase is largely due to the box office success of Shrek Forever after, its highest grossing film to date. Wedbush Morgan Securities expert Michael Pachter...

Virgin Media has taken a really rather unusual step of selling its super fast broadband service using the medium of cheese. Honestly, the link is quite tenuous too. The company sells super fast broadband and, as such, have chosen Speedy Gonzalez to be the face of their campaign. Speedy is a mouse and he loves cheese so, therefore, the billboard is to be made of cheese. So there you go, it’s obvious now you know, but unless you know it’s just going to look and almost certainly smell like a big block of cheese that’s been...

Reevoo, the Internet based consumer review site that encourages consumers that have actually purchased products to leave their reviews and share their experiences with others, have released figures on the public’s favourite and least favourite gadgets. The survey also revealed the main reasons why we love, or indeed hate, certain types of gadget as well as the fact that Brits are the third toughest consumers in Europe to please after France and Spain. The data is compiled from reviews left in the last 12 months on more than 75,000...

After a fairly intense period of posting what felt like nothing but 3D news, it now feels like quite a break since our last 3D related post but Sharp has leapt in bravely to offer us some help in that respect. OK, so it doesn’t have the snappiest title in the world but the BD-HP90S is a 3D capable Blu Ray player which almost instantly plunges into the world of greatness and coolness. In order to give it even more cool credibility it’s an ultra sleek design that can be led down, stood up, or hung upside down on the living room...

Google is hoping that its Internet TV technology will really take off and propel the whole Internet TV potential and at an event yesterday, Sony announced the release of 4 Internet TVs and a Blu Ray player that all have Google’s Internet TV included in them. The devices will be available in the US at the end of this month but unfortunately don’t look likely to be released in the UK until 2011 but they do  represent the first fully Internet enabled devices of their kind rather than the more limited options that have previously...

Devices that include the free to air Freeview satellite service have now sold more than 60m units according to a study by Ofcom. This includes TVs that include Freeview integrated into the design, however,  but it does make Freeview the most popular satellite TV service in the country. Freeview HD, on the other hand, has not enjoyed the same level of take up. Freeview does have a lot going for it, and the fact that it is included in many new TV sets almost certainly helped the figures especially as every household now apparently owns...
