Chinese newspaper Sanxiang City News reported that a couple sold their children in order to acquire money to fund their video game addiction.

The couple, Li Lin and Li Juan, first met at an internet cafe three years ago. After they got married, their first child, a baby boy, was born. They were not good parents to the child, though, as the couple reportedly left the baby home so they could walk to a computer cafe 18 miles away. In 2009, the couple had their second child, a girl. Then they decided to sell her to fund their increasing obsession with online video games. Since the first deal went well, they then decided to sell their firstborn for about $4,600.

Later, they had their third child, another baby boy, and sold him for 30,000 yuan or $4,300.

The crime was discovered when Li Lin’s mother reported the couple to the authorities. The couple said that they were not aware that selling children was a crime and when they were asked if they missed their kids, they answered, “We don’t want to raise them, we just want to sell them for some money.”

Weird news have been coming from China recently, with reports of a teenage girl selling her virginity for an iPhone 4 and a boy selling his kidneys in order to buy an iPad 2. There are also reports of fake Apple Stores in the Kunming province in China, two of which were closed by the authorities.

Our first thought was one of shock and disgust at this story, what do you think?
