Shopping for Christmas presents for the kids this year could be a lot more fun than in previous years. In fact, it could be very interesting indeed if you like getting creative.
This is because the people at toy company Mattel have teamed up with Autodesk to provide an exciting new 3D printed toy service. The idea is that they will offer a dedicated online hub where you can go to design your own toys to get printed out.
The launch of this service is expected to happen in the second half of the year. It is believed that it will cost more to design one of your own toys in this way than to simply buy an off the shelf product from the existing range.
How Much Creative Freedom Will You Have?
What isn’t yet clear is exactly how much scope customers will have for adding their own touches to their toys. Will you be able to choose from a fixed list of Hot Wheels cars, Monster High dolls and Barbie accessories? Or perhaps you can design your own models or add some finishing touches from a menu of options.
We will need to wait to see exactly how we can use this 3D printing service to get hold of better toys but it seems clear that it could be the ideal way of making sure that the kids don’t suffer any crushing disappointments on Christmas morning from now on.`
Would you be tempted to use a customised toy service like this one?
